The type of crossing and type of problem affect how you can report a problem with a pedestrian crossing to us.

Types of crossing

There are different types of pedestrian crossings, these are:

  • Zebra
  • Pelican
  • Puffin
  • Toucan
  • Pegasus

This guide from the RAC will help if you do not know which type it is. Read our briefing document (PDF) to find out when and where we use them in South Gloucestershire.

Types of problem

You can tell us if you spot any of the following:

  • damaged posts or light covers
  • lights not working properly
  • faded or missing markings – report these using our problem with a road marking page

If the problem is dangerous, you should call us on 01454 868000 (24 hours, 7 days a week).

Reporting the problem will help us fix it sooner.

How to report it

You can report a problem with a zebra crossing online using the button below. For other types of crossings you need to call us on 01454 868000 (24 hours, 7 days a week).

You do not have to have an online account with us, you can report as a guest, but without an account we will not be able to let you know when the problem has been fixed.

You will need to pinpoint the location of the crossing on a map. It will also help if you can upload a photo of the problem.

What happens next

We will aim to:

  • attend as soon as possible, and within 24 hours, if the problem could be dangerous
  • fix the problem within 5 working days of it being reported

Some electrical problems may take longer to resolve, particularly if there is a fault with the electricity supply. This is because underground cable faults can take time to locate and may need to be fixed by the power supplier.
