Hygiene waste collections

We offer a free hygiene waste collection service to help you dispose of waste you may have because of certain medical conditions.

We will collect the hygiene waste in separate bags every fortnight. You can choose for the bags to be collected either from the kerbside, or from a discreet location within 1 metre of the boundary which is accessible to the collection crew.

This service can be used for incontinence products including ostomy bags. It is not suitable for menstrual products.

Once you have applied for hygiene waste collections we will send you a roll of bags. You can then order more bags when needed.

We recognise that separate bags may not suit everyone. In some circumstances you can request an alternative option.

How to apply

You will need to sign in or create a South Gloucestershire Council account.

Alternatively, you can:

What happens next

We will send you a confirmation email.

You can find your collection dates using our collection dates lookup, or the South Gloucestershire Council app which can also send notifications and reminders to help you keep track.

On your collection day, tie the bags securely and place them next to your recycling. Hygiene waste bags are collected by a different vehicle to the one that collects your recycling.

Please cancel this service when you no longer need it.

Alternative option

If you feel bags are not appropriate for your circumstances you can request an extra black bin. We will ask you to explain your reasons and assess your request to decide whether you qualify.

Black bins are collected every 3 weeks.

We offer separate collections for sharps and infectious or potentially infectious clinical waste.

Families with children in disposable nappies (under age 5) can apply for the disposable nappy collection service.
