Collections during severe weather
Weather conditions, such as a heatwave, snow, ice, strong winds, storms and flooding, can sometimes affect recycling and waste collections.
Collection crews may need to change how they work to protect their safety and the safety of the public. Collection vehicles can also be affected by weather conditions.
During severe weather:
- collections may take place earlier or later than usual
- some collections may be rescheduled
- priority may be given to black bins and nappy and hygiene waste collections
- some recycling collections may be postponed until the next scheduled collection
Where possible, we will return to collect missed bins, boxes and bags the following day.
What to do if your collection has not happened
Before reporting a missed collection, check if your date has been rescheduled using the collection look-up.
When a collection is rescheduled you will not be able to report it as missed.
Leave your bins, boxes and bags out if it is safe to do so, unless we advise otherwise.
Tips for preventing litter:
- make sure your white recycling bag is closed securely
- put your blue bags for soft plastics in the recycling box with glass
- place heavier items (for example your food bin) on top of your recycling boxes to weigh them down
You can take household recycling and waste (except food waste) to a recycling centre. You need to book a timeslot before you visit.
