Public Access services for planning, building control and licensing applications will be unavailable 27 and 28 April due to essential maintenance.

Before you request our pest control service you must accept the terms and conditions below.

Pest control service

Our pest control service is available to all households in South Gloucestershire (including fringe areas) with a domestic council tax rating, including social landlords. It is also available to all commercial properties with a commercial council tax rating. Farms, smallholdings and private landlords are charged at the commercial rate.

Charges apply for our pest control service. You can find this information on our check pest control charges page.

When you complete the request form we will contact you to arrange an appointment and discuss timescales and payment.

If you fail to keep an arranged appointment you will be charged the advisory visit fee. If you need to cancel an appointment, 24 hours notice is required for cancellation with no charge.

A pre-booked treatment required outside normal office hours will incur an additional charge.

Treatment may be refused where conditions or practices would make them ineffective, for example heavy bird feeding, stables and smallholdings, or land with large accumulations of rubbish, other options may need to be considered to resolve the problem.

By submitting your request for a pest control service you agree to pay South Gloucestershire Council to provide an advisory visit, and treatment if requested, for pest control.

All pest control officers are qualified and experienced (Royal Society for the Promotion of Health, Certificate in Pest Control) and are covered by the council’s insurance policy.

Insect treatment

Before insect treatments, all movable items must be removed and the floor thoroughly vacuumed. After treatment, the room must not be vacuumed for 3 weeks. For treatments to be effective, properties must be occupied after treatment.

The treatment will involve spraying affected areas with a water based insecticide. In some cases as a consequence of the treatment, temporary or permanent staining or marking of sprayed surfaces can occur. Whilst every care is taken to minimise the likelihood of this happening, treatment is undertaken at your own risk. Any concerns should be discussed with the pest control officer before the treatment starts.

Rats and mice treatment

For rats and mice, treatment includes a maximum of 2 visits. If you require further treatment there will be an additional charge.

Wasp and hornet treatment

If you have more than one wasp or hornet nest, the additional nests treated during your visit will be charged per nest.

Wasp and hornet treatments include a revisit within 7 days if the nest has not been destroyed. Further treatments after 7 days will be charged at the full rate.
