Register a place of worship for marriage
You can register a place of worship for marriage and civil partnerships ceremonies.
To register a building to conduct marriages, you will need to download and complete 2 copies of the application form (known as Form 78). The same information needs to be provided on both copies of the form.
The application requires the signatures of 20 householders who use the building regularly as a place of worship.
If you are registering the building to conduct same sex marriages, you must submit a certificate of consent (Form 78A) alongside the application form.
Full guidance notes on completing Form 78 and Form 78A are available (GOV.UK).
Send your application forms and any accompanying information by email to registrationservice@southglos.gov.uk or by post to:

If you want the building be certified as a place of worship and registered for marriage at the same time, the application forms can be submitted together, along with the relevant fees and other necessary information.
Forms for registering a building for worship must be dated before those for registering it for marriage.
