Our Get Digital service provides support for you to learn basic online skills for free at the library.
Support provided
The support we provide includes:
- free 1 to 1 support for up to 60 minutes per session with one of our trained volunteer Digital Champions
- a course with one of our partners; SGS College or South Gloucestershire Community Learning and Skills service
- self-guided online learning

What you can learn
In a 1 to 1 session with a Digital Champion you can get help with topics such as:
- using email
- staying safe online
- using online searches
- completing online forms
- creating documents
One to one sessions
Our Digital Champions offer support in selected libraries:
- Bradley Stoke Library: Tuesdays and Thursdays 1pm to 3pm, Fridays 11am to midday
- Downend Library: Mondays 11am to midday
- Emersons Green Library: Fridays 1pm to 3pm
- Hanham Library: Tuesdays 10am to midday and Thursdays 2pm to 4pm
- Staple Hill Library: Thursdays 10am to midday
- Thornbury Library: Thursdays 10am to 12.45pm
- Winterbourne Library: Fridays 10am to midday
- Yate Library: Saturdays 10am to midday and Tuesdays 10am to midday
How to book a session
There are 3 ways to book your free session which will last up to 60 minutes, they are:
- visit the library during staffed hours and speak to library staff
- email the library
Computer courses by SGS College
SGS College offer free 17 week courses at:
- Downend Library on Tuesdays
- Bradley Stoke Library on Wednesdays
- Winterbourne Library on Thursdays
Skills you can learn on these courses include:
- video chat with friends and family online
- online shopping and how to buy groceries
- using the internet to search for information
- how to compare prices online
- understanding email, messages and attachments
- learn about safety and security when working online
