What goes in your black bin
One black bin is provided to each household. This is for any general waste that can’t be recycled from home or at one of our recycling centres.
In addition you must not put in:
- batteries
- vapes
- rubble, hardcore or soil
- gas canisters
- medicine*
*Any expired and unwanted medicines should be taken to a pharmacy.
Check a specific item
Use the look-up tool on the Recycle Now website to check how to dispose of a specific household item.
You can also do this using the new South Gloucestershire Council app for your phone or tablet.
We cannot collect extra waste left next to your bin.
In certain circumstances you can request an extra black bin, for example due to a large household or medical needs. Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis and we may arrange a visit to confirm your needs.
For families with children under 5 years old we offer free fortnightly disposable nappy collections.
For people who need to dispose of incontinence products including ostomy bags we offer free fortnightly hygiene waste collections.
