What goes in your black bin | BETA - South Gloucestershire Council

Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing our Public Access (planning, building control and licensing applications) and Citizen Portal (school admissions and early year providers) systems. We are working to fix this as soon as possible.

Due to essential maintenance some of our online account services will be unavailable on Wednesday 20 November from 5pm to 10pm.

One black bin is provided to each household. This is for any general waste that can’t be recycled from home or at one of our recycling centres.

In addition you must not put in:

rubble, hardcore or soil
DIY waste
gas canisters
car and vehicle batteries

Use the look-up tool on the Recycle Now website to check how to dispose of a specific household item.

We can’t collect extra waste left next to your bin.

If one black bin is not enough – for example due to a large household or medical needs – you can request an extra black bin. Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis and we may arrange a visit to confirm your needs.
