Due to essential maintenance some of our online services will be unavailable on Thursday 18 April from 5pm to 7pm.

We worked with our partners Network Rail, Great Western Railway and West of England Combined Authority (WECA) to prepare a strategic masterplan for Bristol Parkway train station and the surrounding area.

About the masterplan

The aim was to deliver a vision on how the station can be improved so it could become a better gateway to the North Fringe of Bristol and the whole of South Gloucestershire.

The objectives were to:

  • better connect the station to local communities
  • improve routes for walking, wheeling (such as mobility scooters) and cycling
  • improve connections to bus services
  • make better use of available land
  • improve the customer experience at the station
  • improve facilities at the station
  • improve access to the station
  • attract and retain the best talent and investment
  • respond to the climate and nature emergency

Engagement and consultation

Building the evidence base – October 2021 to January 2022

We collated and analysed relevant information about the area. We used this information to assess the current and potential future situation and look at what opportunities could be created.

Early engagement January 2022 to March 2022

We met with key stakeholders, including local members, town and parish councils, landowners, employers and community groups to introduce them to the project and to listen to their views.

Developing the draft masterplan – April 2022 to June 2022

We prepared a draft masterplan with a proposed vision, key principles, and preferred development option. The draft masterplan was based on the evidence base and feedback from key stakeholders.

Public engagement – 4 July 2022 to 14 August 2022

A 6-week public engagement period was undertaken, where people were encouraged to view information on the draft masterplan and fill in a survey. We held two drop-in events where people could meet the team, view information boards and ask questions. We also held an online workshop to present the draft masterplan and answer questions.

We will research potential funding and delivery models for projects identified within the masterplan.

We will continue to engage with residents, businesses and other stakeholders at appropriate stages as the masterplan delivery projects progress.
