The Libby app from OverDrive offers many digital magazines free of charge. You can download the Libby app from your device’s app store.

Oxford dictionary of family names in Britain and Ireland

The Oxford reference website holds a dictionary of family names where you can find out about your family name, including where it came from. The dictionary covers English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Cornish and immigrant surnames.

It includes every surname that currently has more than 100 bearers, and those that had more than 20 bearers in the 1881 census.

To log in from home use the ‘sign in with your library card’ option to enter your library card number.

Access to research – abstracts

The Access to research website has free academic articles and abstracts for you to read. You can access the abstracts online and email yourself links to any articles of interest.

To gain access to the full text you will need to visit a South Gloucestershire library. You can login to a library computer with your library card or bring your laptop or tablet and connect via our free WiFi.

The Which? website allows you to read product reviews in full before you buy. You can access the Which? website by asking a member of library staff to log you on.
