Indices of deprivation
We use the government’s indices of deprivation for England to measure deprivation in South Gloucestershire.
This is the official measure of relative deprivation for small areas in England. It ranks every small area in England from 1, most deprived area, to 32,844, least deprived area.
The indices are used widely to:
- analyse patterns of deprivation
- allocate resources
- identify areas that would benefit from special initiatives or programmes
- determine eligibility for specific funding streams
The latest indices of deprivation were published in September 2019. Publication dates for any future indices release are yet to be confirmed.
