Health and Wellbeing Board
The Health and Wellbeing Board (HWB) brings together organisations across South Gloucestershire to improve health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities.
It helps set priorities, shape local health strategies and support joined-up working between services.
About the board
The board is made up of political, clinical, professional and community leaders from across South Gloucestershire.
We work with local partnerships to align strategies, integrate services and address health priorities through a coordinated, multi-agency approach.
The board has statutory responsibilities to:
- produce a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, available on our Population Health Intelligence Portal
- develop and oversee the Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy
- keep the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment up to date
- support joined up working across health and care organisations
- prepare and submit the Better Care Fund Plan that supports the local authority and health service in designing and delivering more integrated and preventative care. Further information is available (under item 14)
- shape and support delivery of the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care System Strategy and Joint Forward Plan
The board oversees partnerships that focus on areas such as safeguarding, carers, learning difficulties, ageing well, health protection, and drug and alcohol services. Expand the section below to find out more:

Priorities
Our Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025 to 2029 sets out our vision for a healthy and inclusive South Gloucestershire, where people feel safe, supported and empowered to lead healthy lives.
It includes the annual focus areas, and how partners and communities will work together to reduce inequalities and improve health and wellbeing.
Annual reports summarise the board’s work and progress against the priorities. Read the HWB Annual Report 2025/26.
Spotlight on neighbourhood health and wellbeing
The Fit For The Future 10-year Health Plan requires every Health and Wellbeing Board to lead the development of a Neighbourhood Health Plan. Developing neighbourhood health was already a priority in our Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025-29, and remains a focus for 2026 to 2027.
We have produced a draft Neighbourhood Wellbeing, Health and Care Plan and delegated responsibility for its development to the South Gloucestershire Locality Partnership Board and Neighbourhood Health Steering Group, in line with the Neighbourhood Health Framework. The final plan will be published in 2027.
