If you are having difficulty paying your council tax bill call us on 01454 868003 as soon as possible, or visit one of our One Stop Shops.
We may be able to:
- reschedule your payments
- move your payment date
Check if you can apply for council tax reduction.
If you have not already, you can spread the cost with a monthly direct debit. View and manage your council tax online.
If you do not contact us and you fall behind with your payments you may build up further charges. Find out what happens if you do not pay your council tax.
Advice and guidance
Your rent or mortgage is the most important bill followed by fuel and water. Council tax payments take priority over credit cards and loans not secured on your home.
If you work out your income and expenses, you should be able to see how much you can afford to pay or if you need more help.

Organisations that can help
Our One Stop Shops host weekly advice sessions about benefits and managing debt. These are run by local charities North Bristol Advice Centre and Talking Money. You must phone or email to book an appointment.

Citizens Advice gives confidential information and advice on budgeting, benefits, and managing debt. You can get help online, by phone, and in person. Our local branch, South Gloucestershire Citizens Advice, is based near Yate shopping centre.
National Debtline advisers are available to chat online and by phone if you’re struggling with debt.
North Bristol Advice Centre offers advice and support about benefits and debt management to people living in North Bristol and South Gloucestershire. You can phone and email, and arrange face-to-face appointments in Lockleaze, Patchway, or Shirehampton.
Talking Money is a local charity that offers advice over the phone on debt, energy bills, benefits, and how to manage your money.
