Disabled parking bays can be used by anyone with a Blue Badge. The bay is shown by a white outline painted on the road.

We provide these bays free of charge to eligible residents.

You may be eligible to apply for an advisory disabled parking bay outside your home if all of the following apply:

  • you are a Blue Badge holder
  • your household has a car
  • you do not have off-street parking facilities
  • you are having difficulties parking outside your house

Read our disabled parking bay policy for the full eligibility criteria and guidelines on how we assess applications for parking bays.

These bays are ‘advisory only’, which means it is not an offence for other motorists (blue badge and non-blue badge users) to park in the bay, although the markings are usually well followed.

How to apply

If your circumstances meet our guidelines you can download and complete the application form for an advisory disabled parking bay and return it to the address on the form. You can also use this form if you need to refresh an existing advisory disabled parking bay

If you do not have printer you can visit your nearest library for assistance during staffed hours.

What happens next

We do not install road markings between November and March due to weather conditions.

For this reason disabled parking bays approved during winter months will be scheduled to be installed from the start of April.

Disabled parking bays approved between April and October can be delayed by prolonged periods of wet weather. We aim to install these bays within 12 weeks of approval.

Redundant disabled parking bay

If a disabled parking bay is no longer required you can email transportservices@southglos.gov.uk with details of the property where the bay is sited.

Faded disabled parking bay markings

Where disabled parking bay markings have faded, and the bay has been in place for 3 years or more, we ask the applicant to submit a new application form with all the required supporting documentation.

This is because blue badges are valid for 3 years, and new checks are required to make sure the applicant still meets the criteria for an advisory disabled parking bay.
