This well-connected high street has affordable family-friendly pubs and restaurants and plenty of diverse, independent shops including gift shops, a florists, an independent bakery and a cycle repair shop. It’s also near some wonderful green spaces and the River Avon.

Things to do and see in Hanham

Hanham Lock

Take a stroll around Hanham Lock, the first lock on the Kennet and Avon Canal, and a short cycle ride or drive from the high street. The lock is on the River Avon Trail cycle route. You can also see the canal superintendent’s house, a Grade II listed building called “Picnic House”. Just above the lock are some moorings and two pubs.

Avon Valley Woodlands

Explore our local nature reserve within the beautiful setting of the River Avon near Hanham. The maturing broadleaved woodlands are home to a wide variety of wildlife. These woodlands includes Conham River Park, Hencliff Wood and Bickley Wood. The woodlands are accessible through a network of paths including the River Avon trail. Hanham Library

Book your visit to Hanham Library on the high street and enjoy a great range of books, audio books, and DVDs. To keep you and our staff safe, you’ll need to book an appointment ahead of your visit. Along with our other libraries, we’re offering limited services by booking in advance. All of our libraries have hand sanitiser at the entrances and floor markings in place. There are public toilets in Laburnam Road, near the public car park.

Parking

There is parking in the area, including free parking for up to three hours for shoppers at our Laburnum Road car park. You can find more information on our council car parks page.

How to get to Hanham High Street

Hanham High Street is well served by public transport. Remember that you must wear a face covering unless you are exempt. For more information on public transport services visit the travelwest website.

Hanham is also easy to get to by bicycle. It is very near the River Avon Trail, a virtually traffic-free route from the centre of Bristol. You can find out more about the River Avon Trail on the Better by Bike website.
