Councillors receive a basic allowance. Some councillors receive a special responsibility allowance to recognise additional duties and responsibilities.

Councillors are only eligible for one special responsibility allowance, even if they serve in more than one role. Councillors who receive a special responsibility allowance must report on their actions.

The roles which attract a special responsibility allowance and the amounts are published as part of our constitution.

Members’ allowances and expenses

We publish the amount that has been paid to councillors in an annual statement of allowances and expenses.
