M4 junction 18a link road study
The West of England Joint Local Transport Plan 4 identifies a need for a new motorway junction between M4 Junction 18 and Junction 19 (known as Junction 18a) to help tackle congestion problems in the north-east fringe of Bristol.
An associated link road to the A4174 ring road would also be required.
In 2017 the Department for Transport granted funding for a feasibility study into the M4 Junction 18a and the draft strategic outline business case report is available on our M4 junction consultation page.
The outcome of the study was considered by Cabinet members and the recommendation that they support the Western option as the preferred location for the new junction and link road was agreed at a meeting in 2018.
