Book a visit to a recycling centre

You must be a South Gloucestershire resident and have booked a time slot before you can use our Sort It recycling centres.

Bookings can be made for the same day if slots are available, or up to 2 weeks in advance.

Things to note before booking

Vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes are not allowed on any site. Vans with trailers and vehicles with a double axle or tipping mechanism can not use any of our recycling centres.

Unenclosed, single axle trailers under 2 metres long can visit our Yate, Mangotsfield and Thornbury sites. There is a 1.8m height restriction at our Little Stoke site.

There is no limit to the number of times you can use our recycling centres in a standard vehicle as long as you are not bringing DIY waste. If you are, you can only dispose of 4 boot loads within any 4-week period.

Standard vehicles are:

• cars
• motorbikes
• campervans fitted for leisure use
• cars with a trailer
• pickup trucks with rear seats

It is not possible to book online for visits on foot or by bicycle, you need to call or email us instead to arrange it – follow the instructions in our pedestrian entry guidance note.

You do not need to book if you are only visiting to buy something from the Revive: reuse shop at the Thornbury site.

You can change or cancel your booking using the links in your confirmation email. Please cancel as soon as you can to free up the slot for someone else.

Some items are not accepted at all our centres. Check what you can and cannot take to each location.

Permits for restricted vehicles

You will need to apply for a permit to use the recycling centres in a restricted vehicle. These are limited to 12 visits a year.

Restricted vehicles are:

• small vans under 1.8m
• large vans over 1.8m
• pickup trucks without rear seats
• flatbeds under 3.5 tonnes, with a single axle and no tipping mechanism
• campervans or a minibus with fixtures and fittings removed
• 4×4s or people carriers without rear seats and/or windows
• commercial vehicles adapted for passengers with disabilities

For commercial vehicles adapted for people with disabilities the number of visits you can make is not limited, as long as you are not bringing DIY waste.
