This fund supports projects that are community-led, bringing local people together to work on things that matter to them where they live.

Projects must follow an asset-based community development (ABCD) approach to achieve positive benefits for the local community.

There are 2 types of grants available from this fund:

  • small sparks grants – £100 to £500
  • stronger together grants – £1,000 to £10,000

The grants can be used to fully fund or contribute to community projects, events or activities. These can be new initiatives or existing ones.

Information on all allocated grants are published on the open data webpage.

Who can apply

There is information below on who can apply for the 2 different grants.

Small sparks grant

You can apply for a small sparks grant if you are a small local group or organisation such as:

  • a community interest organisation or community interest company
  • an informal group with a minimum of 4 people involved

Applications for small sparks grants can be made at any time.

Stronger together grant

You can apply for a stronger together grant if your organisation is one of the following:

  • voluntary or community group
  • charitable or social enterprise organisation
  • town or parish council

You will need to apply for the stronger together grant by 9 May 2025.

How to apply

Read the guiding principles document for full information on the application process along with our asset-based community development framework.

You must create a registration account online and provide full details of your organisation so that the record can be approved before you apply.

Informal groups, with a minimum of 4 people involved, will be required to partner with another organisation already registered with us, such as a town or parish council or VCSE organisation, to provide financial safeguards.

Create or update an account on our registration page

You can then request an application form from grants@southglos.gov.uk

What happens next

Applications for small sparks grants will be considered twice a month. We aim to notify applicants of the outcome within 4 weeks of receiving the application.

Applicants for stronger together grants will be notified of the outcome within 6 weeks of the closing date.
