These are the terms and conditions for using our Sort It recycling centres. We may update them without notice, so please check them regularly.

You must be a South Gloucestershire resident and have booked a time slot before you can use our recycling centres.

They can only be used for domestic waste from your household. Waste from business or commercial activity, including waste produced by a business or tradesperson in your home, must be disposed of through commercial waste disposal providers.

Vehicles used must be registered and taxed in the UK.

When booking a visit

Data collected through the booking system will be used to analyse activity and may be used to support enforcement actions in the case of fly tipping or commercial waste disposal.

In certain circumstances we may need to request further information from you.

We will hold details of your booking for up to 3 years.

Find out how we collect, use and share your data in our general privacy notice. Other privacy notices may also apply dependent on the service provided. Check our individual privacy notices.

Entering incorrect information to make your booking may result in you not being permitted to use the site.

Sometimes we may need to cancel bookings due to unforeseen circumstances. If this happens you will be notified by email if you booked online. If you booked via phone or in person without providing an email address, we will try to inform you, but this cannot be guaranteed.

When visiting

You must arrive in the vehicle you entered the details of when booking, and bring proof of address and your booking reference number.

All waste must be sorted so no recyclable materials are put in general waste. You will be asked to split bags of general waste to make sure this is the case.

For your safety:

  • children and animals must always stay in your vehicle
  • you should wear appropriate clothing and footwear
  • smoking and vaping are not permitted
  • all visitors should follow marked walkways and should not climb on or move barriers
  • you must follow the instructions of staff on site at all times

CCTV is in operation at all sites and staff wear bodycams.

We reserve the right to refuse access under certain circumstances, usually but not limited to aggressive or disruptive behaviour, safety concerns, or non-compliance with established rules and policies.

Verbal and physical abuse of our staff and other site users will not be tolerated. Instances of abuse may be reported to the police if necessary.

You may dispose of up to 100 litres of DIY waste in a single visit. DIY waste only includes waste generated through building or renovation work carried out by you in your own home.

100 litres is the equivalent of approximately 6 bags or a car boot load or a bathroom suite. You may make a maximum of 4 visits in a 4-week period to dispose of DIY waste (this is restricted by address and not by vehicle registration).

Vehicles requiring a permit are also restricted to 4 visits in a 4-week period to dispose of DIY waste and no more than 12 visits per year including those to deposit DIY waste.

You are not permitted to remove other people’s recycling or waste from the site. Reusable items will be made available to buy at the reuse shop at Thornbury Sort It centre.
