Operator licence
If you want to run a private hire business in South Gloucestershire you need a licence from us.

Eligibility
To become a private hire vehicle operator you must:
- operate from a premises in South Gloucestershire
- have the necessary planning permission for your premises
- have the right to work in the UK
- undergo a DBS (criminal record) check
- have employers and public liability insurance if required
- meet our ‘fit and proper’ person criteria
How to apply
To apply, download and complete the application form and send it by email to taxis@southglos.gov.uk
We will contact you to arrange an appointment for you to collect your licence and pay the operator licence fee.
Supporting information required
You will need to include:
- copies of your insurance documents (if the operating premises is open to the public)
- your DBS certificate
- proof of your right to work in the UK
What happens next
We will assess that you are ‘fit and proper’ person. Things we consider for this include:
- skills, knowledge and experience
- criminal record
- previous history as a licence holder
