Renew your taxi driver licence
A taxi driver licence needs to be renewed every 3 years, and some refresher training will be required.
Before your current licence expires we will email you a renewal letter which contains a unique reference number. You will need this to start your online application.

Training
For safeguarding and child exploitation awareness refresher training, visit the Safe In Your Hands website and follow the instructions for existing drivers.
You must complete disability awareness training. This has to be booked with one of our approved providers: Blue Lamp Trust, Green Penny or STC Safeguarding.
Supporting information required
As part of the online application to renew your licence you will need to upload copies of:
- a passport style photo of yourself
- your driving licence photo card
- your training certificates for safeguarding and child exploitation awareness refresher, and disability awareness training
- your enhanced DBS certificate and proof of subscription to DBS update service
- proof of your address document dated within the last 3 months (such as a utility bill, bank statement, benefit statement, credit card statement – mobile phone bills are not accepted)
- proof of your right to work in the UK, or a share code
- your tax check code
- the medical form if required, must be dated within the last 4 months (email us if you are not sure when this is due)
You will also need to bring the original documents when you collect your photographic identification badge. We will email you to arrange this.
It is your responsibility to renew your licence. You can find the expiry date on your badge or licence.
If your licence has expired you will need to apply as a new applicant and will not be able to do any licensed work until the full process has been completed.
How to renew
You will need the reference number from your renewal letter. Payment will be required as part of the online application process.

What happens next
We aim to process your renewal application within 6 weeks.
Once your application has been processed you will receive the licence via email, and we will confirm when and where to collect your photographic identification badge.
Change of circumstances
You must notify us as soon as possible of any change of circumstances.
