Gritter competition 2024

Our fleet of 9 gritters have been busy blasting ice on the roads around South Gloucestershire in the recent sub-zero temperatures.

This year we would like local children to get busy with some cold hard facts and work out how much salt our shiny ice and snow-busters will use over the winter 2023 to 2024 season.

In the video below we have given you a salt-trail of clues to help you get an icy grip on the answer, or be the closest to it!

Closing date for entries is Sunday 14 April 2024.

We use salt from the Irish Salt Company which arrives in Avonmouth via boat and helps reduce our carbon footprint compared to other sources. The company has provided children’s book tokens as prizes.

Terms and conditions

To enter you must be aged 16 or under and a resident of South Gloucestershire. Parents can help younger children to enter.

The competition is open for entries from 9am Friday 26 January 2024 until midnight on Sunday 14 April 2024. Only one entry per child per household is allowed.

The first 10 entries that are closest to the actual amount of salt used by our gritters over the winter 2023 to 2024 season will each be awarded a £25 book token.

Winners will be contacted by email no later than Tuesday 23 April.
