Become an independent member of our Audit and Accounts Committee
We are looking for up to 2 voluntary independent members to join our Audit and Accounts Committee.
Bring your expertise in finance, audit, or governance to help strengthen transparency, accountability and risk management.
About this volunteering role
This is a unique opportunity to act as a ‘critical friend’ to the council – asking the right questions, offering constructive challenge, and helping shape a better future for South Gloucestershire Council.
As an independent member, you will:
- provide independent assurance on the council’s risk management, governance, and financial reporting
- help maintain high ethical standards and support the council’s commitment to transparency
- attend and contribute to up to 6 evening committee meetings per year (plus any additional meetings as required)
- receive reimbursement for reasonable travel expenses
- serve a 4-year term
Who can apply
We are looking for people with:
- a background in finance, audit, risk, or governance
- strong analytical and communication skills
- the ability to evaluate complex information and make evidence-based decisions
- a commitment to impartiality and public service
You must not be a current or recent (within 5 years) councillor or officer of South Gloucestershire Council or any other local authority.
