University of the West of England (UWE)

South Gloucestershire is home to the University of the West of England (UWE).

UWE is one of Britain’s most popular universities, with more than 30,000 students and 3,000 staff making it the largest provider of higher education in the South West of England.

Students come to UWE from all parts of the UK, as well as a significant and growing number of international students from over 140 countries worldwide.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are supported and valued in South Gloucestershire and can help and support your business to grow. The National Apprenticeship Service works with South Gloucestershire and Stroud College and can help you set up, advertise and fill apprenticeships to suit your business.

You can get for funding from the government to help pay for apprenticeship training. GOV.UK has guidance on employing an apprentice and the steps you will need to take.

South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS)

SGS employs over 600 apprentices per year for employers across a range of sectors. At its campus in Filton, it provides Level 3 pathway courses for students studying aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering.

British Engineering Manufacturers Association (BEMA)

BEMA provides apprenticeships (Level 2 and 3) and training to a number of tier one aerospace companies in the West of England. Apprenticeships include trades such as machining, fabricating, welding and fitting. BEMA is located in Yate.
