Holiday activities and food clubs funded by the Department for Education

We are offering holiday activities and food clubs for children aged 5 to 16 years who live in South Gloucestershire. Funded by the Department for Education (DfE).

The activities and food clubs will run in the summer holidays (on weekdays only) between 22 July and 3 September.

Places are free for children who get benefits-related free school meals (not universal infant free school meals).

For any other queries about whether your child may be eligible for a free place, contact the activity and club providers direct or email HAF@southglos.gov.uk.

Depending on the activity, you may also be able to pay for your child to attend if they do not get free school meals.

Children attending that get benefits-related free school meals will be given a free lunch.

Bradley Stoke

The South Gloucestershire play scheme (formerly known as Four Towns Play scheme) have free activities at Bowsland Green Primary School in Bradley Stoke.

From 2 August until 27 August (on weekdays only) 10.30am to 2.30pm. 

For children 5 to 11 years old.

A packed lunch will be provided each day. Please make sure your child takes a drink (not fizzy).  

The activities include:

  • sports
  • games
  • arts and crafts

Free for all children.

Bromley Heath

Progressive Sports activities at Bromley Heath Junior School.

From 22 July to 27 August (on weekdays only), 8.30am to 3.30pm.

Signature Sports Coaching are running multi-sports fun days at Parkwall Primary School in Cadbury Heath.

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the first 4 weeks of the summer holidays. 9am to 3pm.

For children 5 to 11 years old.

Lunch will be provided with a choice of sandwich, fruit, snack and a drink. 

Activities from a range of sports include:

Activities at the Juice Community Project, Coronation Park in Cadbury Heath. From Tuesday 26 July to Thursday 26 August (on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only), 12pm to 2pm.

For children and young people 5 to 16 years, who live in the BS30 postcode area.

Activities include:

  • family day with outdoor activities (Tuesdays)
  • outdoor activities and craft (Wednesdays) 
  • sport and outdoor games (Thursdays)

Free for all children.

No booking required.

Register on arrival and collect a free packed lunch (first come first served basis).

Downend

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the first 4 weeks of the summer holidays. 9am to 3pm.

For children 5 to 11 years old.

Premier Education ‘Summer of Sport’ Holiday Camps are available at Christ Church Infants School in Downend.

From 26 July until 27 August (on weekdays only) 8.45am to 3.30pm. 

For children 5 to 11 years old.

Lunch will be provided, but children will need to take a bottle of water and wear suitable clothing for the weather.

The sessions are at Filton Youth Centre, Elm Park on:

These days will include cooking, crafts and group games.

There are also off-site activities, 2pm to 6pm on:

And a graffiti artwork day at Little Stoke Scout Hut, 10am to 2pm (in partnership with Creative Youth Network). 

Off-site activities will be confirmed by the club provider but will include minibus travel to the venue and lunch.

Free for all children and young people.

Little Stoke

South Gloucestershire Music Hub at Little Stoke Primary School has four days of exciting, creative musical activities. 

From 26 July to 29 July, 9.30am to 1.30pm.

For children 7 to 11 years old (Key Stage 2).

A healthy packed lunch will be provided each day.

Children will:

  • sing
  • play a guitar
  • play a violin
  • play percussion instruments 
  • meet new friends

  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • Ninja Academy
  • Extreme Dodgeball
  • Wet Wednesday (a fun filled day with super soakers, slip’n’slides, bouncy castles – don’t forget a towel)
  • traditional sports like football, netball, and tag rugby

Children who attend through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) project will get a free meal and drinks.

Mangotsfield

Sporting Chance Holiday Sports Camps have sports and games at Mangotsfield Primary School.

For children 5 to 11 years old. 

This summer hot nutritious lunches are being offered as an option.

Patchway

Charlton Wood Primary Academy out of school club in Patchway.

From 9 August to 27 August (on weekdays only) 9am to 3pm.

For children age 8 and under. 

There are a limited number places for children on free school meals from Charlton Wood Primary school and for children who live in the area. (If you would like to know about places for siblings, please ask when booking).

This club has:

  • fun indoor and outdoor activities (use of large club room for craft and play, lunch and snack times)
  • free healthy lunch provided (including wraps, pasta, yoghurt and fruit)
  • cereal and toast available on arrival for children who would like breakfast
  • fruit snacks
  • large playground areas with an all-weather pitch and play equipment

Children are welcome to bring their own scooters and helmets.

The Pod at Krunch South West (next to Thornbury skate park) will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays for creative sessions, outdoor games, cooking and craft. 11am to 2pm.

For young people age 10 and over.

Priority Sports have sports and games at Elm Park Primary School, Winterbourne.

For children 5 to 11 years old (Reception to year 6).

They will be split into key stage 1 and key stage 2 groups.

A healthy packed lunch will be provided each day (options available when you book).

There will be a mix of sports including:

  • rounders and
  • dodgeball
  • orienteering
  • Danish longball

Wotton-under-Edge (covering Charfield, Tortworth and Wickwar)

Priority Sports have sports and games at Blue Coat Primary School, Wotton-under-Edge.

From 26 July to 6 August (on weekdays only) 9am to 3.30pm. 

For children attending Charfield, Tortworth and Alexander Hosea Primary Schools (Reception  to year 6). Enquire with Priority Sports direct if your child is not at one of these schools but would like a place at the holiday camp. 

They will be split into key stage 1 and key stage 2 groups.

Learning Partnership West, Yate Youth are offering a 6-week horse care programme at Cooks Lane Stables in Coalpit Heath.

Every Tuesday  from 27 July to 31 August. 10am to 2pm.

For young people 11 to 18 years old.

Free for all young people.

It will include:

  • BBQs and free lunch every day

They will also be offering sessions every Thursday at Kingsgate Park in Yate. From 22 July to 19 August and The Wild Place Project on 26 August.

Activity and club safety

The activities will follow Covid-19 safety measures.

They have been risk assessed by the providers who have had training and guidance from our public health local outbreak management team.

The activity and club providers have experience of running holiday activities for children and young people and have the appropriate indemnity insurance for their activities..

Their staff and volunteers have been Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked.

Food vouchers

Each child on free school meals will be given a £60 supermarket e-voucher via their school. This will happen before the end of term to support children throughout the summer holidays.
