There are a number of grants available to support local businesses impacted by Covid-19 (coronavirus).

No more money will be paid from grant 2 or grant 3.

Business restart grants are now available.

Different types of grants

Local restrictions Grant: for businesses who have a business rates account and had to close

This grant is for businesses who were asked to close during the January 2021 lockdown.

The payment covers 16 February to 31 March 2021.

Eligible businesses include:

  • non-essential retail
  • leisure
  • personal care
  • sports facilities
  • hospitality

Funding amounts for local restrictions grant

The grant amount is based on the business premises rateable value as follows:

  • £15,000 and under will get £2,096
  • above £15,000 and less than £51,000 will get £3,143
  • £51,000 and above will get £4,714

Eligibility criteria for local restrictions grant

  • you must be the business ratepayer for the premises and be registered for business rates with South Gloucestershire Council
  • you must have been trading on 4 January 2021
  • you must be a non-essential business that legally had to close from 5 January 2021 (you are still eligible if you continued to trade through click-and-collect, delivery or takeaway)

You cannot receive grant funding if:

  • you have chosen to close but have not been legally asked to
  • your pre-lockdown primary method of trading was as a takeaway
  • you have already received grant payments that equal the maximum levels of state aid allowed under the de minimis and the Covid-19 Temporary State Aid Framework
  • your business was an undertaking in difficulty (within the meaning of Article 2 (18) of the General Block Exemption Regulation) on the 31 December 2019
  • your business is in administration, insolvent, or is subject to a striking off notice

Business Restart Grants

These grants are now available for people who pay business rates.

Non-essential retailers (tier 1)

The grant amount is based on the business premises rateable value (on 1 April 2021) as follows:

  • £15,000 and under will get £2,667
  • above £15,000 and less than £51,000 will get £4,000
  • £51,000 and above will get £6,000

Hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care, and gyms (tier 2)

The grant amount is based on the business premises rateable value (on 1 April 2021) as follows:

  • £15,000 and under will get £8,000
  • above £15,000 and less than £51,000 will get £12,000
  • £51,000 and above will get £18,000

What happens after you apply for a grant

We will contact you if we are going to give you a grant to let you know the payment amount and when we will pay you.

If we are not giving you a grant, we will let you know the reasons why and what other support there may be available.

No payments will be made before Thursday 15 April.

Additional discretionary funding

There will soon be discretionary funding for businesses that are impacted by the restrictions and are not eligible for the restart grants.

Your right to appeal

You (or someone representing you) can appeal if:

  • your grant application has been unsuccessful
  • you do not agree with the tier we have assessed you on

The appeal must be made by email to localsupportgrants@southglos.gov.uk within 7 days of our decision.

You must tell us why you feel the decision is unfair and give supporting evidence.

Your appeal will be reviewed by a senior officer within 14 days of us getting it.
