Coronavirus (Covid-19): service updates, support and health advice.

National rules and restrictions during coronavirus can be found on GOV.UK

Report someone who is not following Covid-19 rules by using the Avon and Somerset Police online form or call 101 (non-emergencies) or 999 (emergencies).

Tell us about a business that is not following the Covid-19 regulations – email FoodandHealth@southglos.gov.uk or call 01454 868001.

Local enforcement

A Covid-19 enforcement group meets regularly to oversee our enforcement activity to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

The group covers enforcement in all areas where we have responsibilities or powers including:

  • workplaces or business sectors where actions can be most beneficial
  • pubs, clubs and hospitality venues
  • events

This work is closely aligned with the police, who have enforcement powers for individuals and social groups.

Council officers continue to make essential visits on a risk assessed case by case basis to meet statutory requirements or a public health need. In addition a routine visit may be deemed essential where significant non-compliance is suspected.

We continue to update businesses about the requirements of Covid-19 regulations. You can subscribe for these updates by email.

If we find a business is not following regulations, first we will provide instruction and guidance. If the business does not properly engage with the process, or is found not to have followed the instruction, formal action is taken.

The vast majority of cases have been resolved through negotiation, without needing to proceed to formal enforcement action.
